Whoever said having a kid was the only way for a tax deduction? We get to count our IVF!!!
I went to have our taxes done today. I asked our accountant if fertility treatments could be counted for deductions. He consulted two books and his co-worker and said YES!!! WOOHOO!!! Anything that wasn't covered by insurance and all of our medical miles.
So out of pocket, we paid $12,263.53 out of the grand total of $12,988.77. As for our medical miles, well, I thought we lived pretty close to our clinic but when I actually added it all up, DH and I drove 868 miles roundtrip!!! That's bananas!
Now we can use our tax return for our FET!!!

This is absolutely EXCELLENT news!!!! I am so happy for you!!!
I know!!!!! Isn't that the best?? I was so very excited when I saw I could claim our IVF and the hundreds of miles (if not, thousands) that I traveled. Now to conquer these FETs!!!!! :)
HELLZ YEAH! SO happy for you guys!!!!
But that's only if you do itemized expenses, right? So glad there's a silver lining with all of this!!!
Congrats! So happy for you
No way!! How awesome. This is soooooooooooooooooooo good to know. Thanks sweets!!
I didn't know medical MILES counted too!!! That makes ours even higher too :)
Wow, this is great to know. Who-hoo!!
YAAAAAYYY! This post made me smile so wide!! I am SO HAPPY ABOUT THIS!
I love it!!! Let the government pay for your treatment....I think that's fabulous! Now I'm kinda sad our insurance is so good...no deductions for us....bummer...
Yay, that's great! I added ours up and it's around $8k so we get to deduct as well. Last year our tax lady said anything over $7k we could deduct so I saved everything knowing we were doing treatments. I hope we get $ back this year!
That's great news...I know I have paid around $2000 for treatments...not sure if a minimum must be reached. But that is awesome if I ever do IVF or other. Thanks for sharing!
Oh boy, that's great news! Thanks for sharing them.
Yea we do the same thing....I rack up something like 3000 miles driving to our RE, and we only did 2 cycles in 2010.
Hope you guys get a big refund to put aside!
