To Switch or Not to Switch?

Okay, so DH and I did virtually NO research on the clinic we're using. Both of our doctors recommended we go there, they are nationally known so that's where we went. Halfway through our IVF cycle, I found out that there's another clinic maybe 10 minutes from my house.

I was irritated we hadn't researched but when I really thought about it, I decided we still would have gone with our current clinic just because we "knew" them, therefore, we would have been more comfortable. We decided we'd go ahead and do our FET with the current clinic because our totsicles are already there and we know what to expect. If it failed, we would at least look into pricing at the other clinic and if we decided to try IVF again then we would go for a consult there before deciding who to do IVF #2 with. In my mind thinking this is a ways away, like 1-2 years at least.

Well, now I'm having doubts/concerns with our current clinic for our FET. I had a failed IVF cycle, another friend had a failed IVF cycle there and another friend has had 4 failed IUIs (all of these within the last 6 months). I know another blogger that went to the other clinic and is pregnant after her first IVF. So let's look at the odds here? See my concern? So sigh...I know we still have time, I still have 2 months before I have to call to get on the schedule but I don't know what to do. Stay with my current clinic for the FET and hope it works? If it fails, then check out the other clinic? Decisions, decisions....I hate them!

UPDATE: I talked to a co-worker last week about the "other" clinic. Her OB said she's hesitate to send people there because the doctor isn't board certified BUT he does think outside the box, so he's good in that sense. See more to think about!!!

These decisions are tough. At the end of the day, you just have to be comfortable with the doctor and the doctors skills.
Try not to compare yourself to others-we are all faced with different obstacles due to so many different diagnosis, ages, health conditions, and the list goes on. Believe, me, I am MUCH better at giving advice than following my own...but it is true. Plus, don't compare IUI's-the statistics in themselves suck!
I have faced the board certified vs not as well and if the experience is the same, in the IVF world, it's not too important. Those that are board certified just follow standard guidelines (which are good and in place for a reason) but sometimes 'out of the box' thinkers are good too.
My vote-go for a 2nd opinion, meet the doctor and then make your choice.
Also remember that transferring embryos, though is safe and done, adds another element that can go awry.
I hate decisions too!!

Honey I sooooooo wish I lived by you so we could do to lunch EVERY DAY and talk about this stuff. I wish you the best of luck with your to switch or not to switch decision. I am no help regarding this matter. I am willing to fly 3,000 miles to use a guy who is "under ground".

Stupid infertility!!!!!!!!! :)

XOXOXOXO

Perhaps it's because I'm in Medicine, but there is no way in heck I'd ever consider letting a doctor treat me in a specialty they weren't board certified in.

Why don't you at least set up a consultation with the new clinic and see if that helps.

My first thought is nobody who isn't board certified would be coming near me or my ovaries, but then again...Maybe there is a reason they're not? ask those questions!

I contacted that other clinic. I will forward you the email I got in return.

Hey I hope you're talking about me and I will say that I knew Dr. S wasn't board certified but here's what I will say: his success rates (while not official yet because it has to take 2 years) are extremely high and he tailors treatment to each individual patient so specifically that between the lower cost, the personal care and the individual attention, I wouldn't think twice about that board certification. He does free 15 minute phone consultations if you're interested. A great guy, trust me. :) I hope so much that moving forward, wherever you go you are happy and you find success. If you ever have any questions for me I will be totally candid and happy to answer them for you or anyone else who's curious.

Since both your doctors recommended them...I probably wouldn't have done too much investigating either. I know we didn't.
